The Mathothek in Bern is a lending library for mathematical objects. Teachers, youth workers and parents can borrow thematic boxes filled with strategy games, wooden puzzles, Soma cubes, pentominoes, weighing sets and much more — enough material to keep a whole class busy.
Each box comes with tested activity cards in German and French, sorted by level from kindergarten to lower secondary school, along with tips for running a game-based maths lesson. The collection currently counts 38 boxes and grows every year.
Loans are free of charge and run for four weeks, with an optional extension. Boxes are picked up and returned at our premises near Bern main station; reservations are made by e-mail.
