Why do bathroom tiles fit together so neatly, and why can a pentagon be so stubborn? “Tilings!” is an interactive travelling exhibition of twelve hands-on stations about patterns, symmetry and the mathematics of covering the plane — from Alhambra ornaments to Penrose tilings that never repeat.
Visitors assemble giant magnetic tiles, hunt for the seventeen wallpaper groups in everyday designs, and try to tile a wall with shapes of their own invention. All stations are self-explanatory and work without prior knowledge; guided tours for school classes are available on request.
The exhibition is based in Zurich and travels to schools, libraries and community centres, mainly in the cantons of Zurich, Aargau and Thurgau. Hosting it requires about 80 m² for two to six weeks; transport and set-up are handled by our team.
