[Example] Unplugged computer science — teacher training day

Sorting networks drawn with chalk in the schoolyard, binary numbers counted on fingers, error-correcting codes performed as a card trick: “unplugged” computer science teaches the deep ideas of the discipline without any hardware. This full-day course in Basel shows teachers of grades 4 to 9 how to do it in their own classrooms.

The morning alternates short inputs with the activities themselves, experienced from the pupils’ perspective. In the afternoon, participants adapt two activities to their own teaching context and receive structured feedback from the trainers and the group.

Participants leave with a printed activity folder, all templates as editable files, and a certificate of attendance recognised for cantonal continuing-education requirements. The course language is German; materials are also available in English.
